After 37 days and 3500 miles, my fall '07 Keeneland trip comes to an
end. The old adage (you know the one "Time flys when ... ") has again
proven true as it seems like only a week or so ago that I was driving
Northeast in anticipation of a month of great racing at one of the
true (remaining?) bright spots of thoroughbred racing, Keeneland, in Lexington
Kentucky. Everything fell into place as the weather generally
cooperated (few days of rain, but they tell me they "needed it") and
the racing was top notch as expected.

The final week of the meet included a total bust in the Wednesday live
contest and culminated with Saturday's 7-race card abbreviated by the
Breeders Cup Simulcast which drew an even bigger crowd to the track
than a final day of the meet normally would.

Our partnership was finally successful at the claiming box by winning
a 3-way shake on a 4-year-old filly, Kickin N Screamin on the final
Friday of the meet. She is now in the Chuck Simon barn at Churchill
undergoing a makeover in preparation for continuing her racing career.

I spent my final day in Lexington touring the Woodford Reserve
Distillery and picking up a few souvenirs (in the form of quart
bottles :) )for friends. Friday was checkout day and on to
Louisville to stop by Churchill and the Simon barn to check on the new
claim and take in a card at the Downs. Finally Saturday had arrived
and it was time to leave. As I drove out of Louisville, I was already
anticipating a return trip for the spring meet in April of '08.
